Bangladesh Medical College

Established in 1986 by Bangladesh Medical Studies and Research Institute (BMSRI), Bangladesh Medical College is the oldest private medical college in Bangladesh, affiliated with the Dhaka University. The college and associated hospitals are governed and run by BMSRI itself. It is situated in the Dhanmondi region of Bangladesh. The college offers a 5-year course in Medicine – Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC). It does mandate a one-year internship after graduation to attain the degree. The associated college with BMC is the Bangladesh Medical College and Hospital, which is a 500-inpatient capacity, multi-specialty hospital. A World Health Organisation recognized hospital, graduates from Bangladesh Medical College are eligible to apply for Medical Licensing Examinations of the US and can register with the UK General Medical Council for practice. In areas of research and writing also, BMC has consistently shown merit – Bangladesh Medical College Journal, the official medical journal of BMC is also renowned within the medical fraternity of Bangladesh. Campus Facilities The educational facilities available at Bangladesh Medical College include 5 large classrooms, department tutorial rooms, dissection and operation halls, laboratories for pathology, biochemistry, and others. With a collection of 6000+ books, its library contains a host of monograms, journals, magazines, references, and computers with internet facilities. Admissions Process Admissions to Bangladesh Medical College to its degree programs are based on a national-level medical entrance test, conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) of Bangladesh. Apart from this multiple-choice entrance exam, eligibility based on SSC, HSC level scores and CGPA attained at the same, also plays a role. According to the DGHS guidelines for all educational institutions, seats are reserved for children of freedom fighters and underprivileged families. As of today, the college welcomes a batch of 120+ students to its campus each year.
