Sylhet Women’s Medical College& Hospital

Established in the year 2005, Sylhet Women’s Medical College (SWMC) was established in the year 2005 as a medical college designated for female students. Located in Mirboxtola, central Sylhet, the college is affiliated to Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, under the school of medical sciences. It is approved by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MH&FW) to admit 100 students for admissions.

Based on the teaching excellence of 200+ college-based and external physicians, Sylhet Women’s Medical College & Hospital (SWMCH) provides comprehensive and multi-disciplinary healthcare in 100+ specialty areas. Ranked among the top 5 private medical colleges in Bangladesh, SWMCH is recognized nationally for its commitment to teaching excellence and quality healthcare provision.

It offers a five-year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree, recognized by Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) and Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons (BCPS). It is inclusive of a one-year internship as per the government requirements. It also plans to establish a Dental College and a Nursing College in the coming future.

Campus Facilities

The college is well-equipped with all the basic necessities that the students require. There are large, spacious lecture halls for 300+ students, well-equipped laboratories, Library with IT and research facilities for both students and teachers, auditorium, and common rooms for students and cafeteria facilities for everyone. The library is stocked with the latest editions of textbooks, journals, publications, and magazines.

Coming to student accommodations, Sylhet Women’s Medical College offers fully residential programs where students must reside within the college premises. The hostel is situated within the campus, with facilities including dining area, common rooms, and recreational rooms with TV and games. The college keeps active in recreational and educational activities with numerous student clubs and bodies, cultural and sports events, seminars and conferences, and residential field-site training programs (RFST).

Admission & Eligibility Criteria

Candidates are selected for admission based on the merit list generated by the Director-General of Health Sciences Bangladesh for the national medical entrance exam. The student must have completed HSC or equivalent with Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) along with the minimum required GPA. 5% of the total seats are reserved for students from underprivileged families/families of freedom fighters. The medium of instruction followed is English. To appear for college examination, the college follows an 80% attendance policy.
